Classic SME Ski Weeks (advanced pace)

5500 vertical feet or more per day

Classic SME Ski-Weeks is the traditional powder-ski program we have offered since 1985 at the Durrand Glacier and Mt. Moloch area. It is designed for all skiers who prefer to ski longer routes with more vertical feet. Also the pace might be faster than on the new program Relaxed Pace SME Ski-Weeks.

During this program, Classic SME Ski-Weeks we explore the large variety of steep and exhilarating tree-runs near the Durrand Glacier Chalet, in the area of the Excalibur Bowl and also in the fairytale forest of Morning Glory. When the weather and conditions permit going into the alpine, we will ski the incredible terrain well above the tree-line. Linking tours together with the choice of 14 different glaciers with their vast size and interesting terrain features. The high-light of every great ski-run is of course the very moment as we depart off the summit and experience these first turns into the upper slopes of the mountain. Experiencing the magic of dynamic curving, light and deep powder snow and the most amazing line leading us down the fantastic and varied terrain at the Durrand Glacier area.

As in all our ski programs, depending on the weather, we plan a two night hut-to- hut tour to the Mt. Moloch Chalet. This remote and cozy hut is located in the high alpine amidst an impressive glacier system surrounded by fabulous skiable peaks.

If you feel you would enjoy this program, Classic SME Ski-Weeks, but you are not sure if you can handle or would enjoy towing at a pace with daily vertical of 5500 feet or more, then we recommend starting with the program Relaxed Pace SME Ski-Weeks. Relaxed Pace SME Ski-Weeks gives you the opportunity of exploring and skiing the same routes and terrain as the more strenuous program Classic SME Ski-Weeks.

For the Program Classic SME Ski-Weeks it is important that you are physically in very good shape and that you are a stable, efficient and technically good skier. You have to be able to handle a minimum of 5500 vertical feet of ski-climbing and downhill skiing per day. Further it is important that you can link a minimum of 30 short-radius turns in deep powder-snow of all conditions. The terrain we ski in will be steep, rugged and has natural obstacles and hazards to navigate around.

It is possible to take a day off from skiing and just enjoy the ambiance of the Durrand Glacier Chalet with its comfortable living space and unparalleled views of surrounding peaks.
