Intro SME Ski-Mountaineering: beyond the ski-lift
Alpine Touring Gear, Telemark, Split-Snowboard
This program will be part of the Relaxed Pace SME Ski-Weeks. However, if you feel strong and capable enough to handle large vertical feet everyday, then you are welcome to sign up for the more challenging program, Classic SME Ski-Weeks. During your introduction to ski-mountaineering your guide will teach you in how to handle avalanche and ski-touring safety equipment. The guide will also assist you with how to use climbing skins, how to dress properly and how to pack the back-pack. If you don't own ski-mountaineering equipment, SME has a large selection of ski-mountaineering boots and high-end powder-skis equipped with special ski-mountaineering bindings for rent at the Durrand Glacier Chalet. SME will supply all guests, free of charge, with avalanche safety beacons, avalanche shovels, avalanche probes, emergency radio (two per group) and avalanche safety packs, the ABS Pack. The ABS Pack is a mechanical avalanche safety devise with a hand-trigger that, in case of an avalanche, can be pulled. Within 3 seconds two large air-bags inflate, thus greatly increasing the chance of staying on the surface of an avalanche. Ability Level
