Snowboard Mountaineering

Since 1994, SME also offers powder-snowboarding and snowboard mountaineering to its guests. Recognizing the freedom of high mountain snowboarding and also the fast growing interest in climbing peaks and carving long glaciers on a board, SME became seriously involved in developing efficient techniques and gear to climb with a snow board.

Powder-snowboarding and snowboard mountaineering are very exhilarating and rewarding ways to experience the winter mountains. Riding off a high peak and carving the endless powder slopes of wild broken glaciers, is a feeling which is hard to match.

Snowboard mountaineering is physically demanding and requires good technique in riding deep powder snow, glaciers and high peaks. If you fit this description - sign up for the most exhilarating snowboard experience and style huge.

Bindings

We ask our snowboarding guests to not use soft-bindings. SME recommends the use of step-in bindings with a quick release system or the more suitable plate-bindings with soft, light-weight ski-mountaineering boots.

Climbing up-hill

To climb up-hill the most efficient way is the use of a split board. Your pack is light and each half of the split board acts like ski mountaineering skis that allow comfortable climbing in the toughest ski mountaineering terrain.

If you wish to ride our high mountains and incredible glaciers on your personal one piece board, then we have a number of shorter skis with ski mountaineering bindings for Dynafit boots. They are 125 cm long and 10 cm wide. We ask our snowboard guests to not use snow shoes for climbing uphill.
